OUR ROOTS
A Legacy of Contemplative Prayer
The origins of the Discalced Carmelite Secular groups trace back to the reform initiated by St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross in 16th-century Spain. This spiritual lineage, rooted in the ancient traditions of Mount Carmel, seeks a deeper union with God through contemplative prayer and fraternal life. Over centuries, these groups have evolved into a global community of laypeople who live the Teresian charism in the midst of the world, fostering a spirit of silence, solitude, and service while supporting one another in their shared journey toward divine intimacy.
